The PasswordField is for password input. The characters typed by a user are hidden by displaying an echo string.
The following code creates a password field with the default constructor from PasswordField class and then set the prompt message text for the password field. The prompt message is displayed as the grayed out text in the field and provides users a hint for what is the field is for without using the label control.
PasswordField passwordField = new PasswordField(); passwordField.setPromptText("Your password");
PasswordField class has the setText method to set a text string to the control. For the password field the string specified is hidden by the echo characters. By default, the echo character is a dot.
The value in the password field can be obtained through the getText method.
