Have Word automatically add a caption field : Caption « Documentation « Microsoft Office Word 2007 Tutorial

Click the References tab. 
          Then click Insert Caption button.

Then click AutoCaption

In the Add Caption When Inserting list, click the check boxes to select the instances

Then select the Label, Positioning and Numbering options

Then click OK.
